![]() Striptease workout helps you shed more than clothes

The word “striptease” normally conjures up images of skimpy sequined outfits, smoky bars, dollar bills and a very well-greased pole. But this profession has become a popular pastime for giggly bachelorettes, birthday girls and even soccer moms who want to tone up their bodies and spice up the bedroom. It started when celebrity sex symbol Carmen Electra released “Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease” workout video in 2004. The DVD's three routines are designed to tone the body through moves that would be more suitable onstage at a club instead of in the living room next to the baby's playpen. Since then, gyms and dance studios have started to offer striptease classes as group aerobic workouts, patterned after Electra's video and some of the striptease classes offered by bachelorette party planners. Metro Event Planners, a bachelorette-party planning service that caters to most of New Jersey — including planning nights out in Atlantic City — offers several striptease and lap dance classes. “The striptease class is all about standing moves and how to seduce your guy with more like dancing stuff,” said Blaire Allison, founder of Metro Event Planners. “The lap dance is straight up chair dancing. The kind of stuff guys will pay $20 in the back room for.” Allison has had aerobic instructors attend the company's class, which is taught by former and current strippers, and take what they learned back to the gym where they combine the sultry moves with cardio exercises designed to make the dancers sweat. “I think in the end, (striptease workouts) are not the real thing,” Allison admitted. “A striptease is meant to be slow and seductive. Anything aerobic is going to make you sweat.” |
