Meeting News "Theme Party Creates Buzz" By Tracee Sioux JANUARY 27, 2003 -- Looking for a theme party idea that's out of the ordinary? Well, here's a spicy solution from Blaire Allison, president of New York City-based Metro Event Planners. Last month, Allison experimented with a "sex toy" event at Flow, a local nightclub. It was similar to a Tupperware Party, with plastic that's practical, if more stimulating. Allison sent invitations to her own 65,000-person database and produced the event to see how it would go before trying to sell clients on the idea. Judging it a success, she's moving forward. "For the right group, a sex toy event is the perfect bonding, 'girl power' solution," she said. "Everyone left feeling empowered." While this party is not for conservative or conventional clients, Allison said she would toss it on the nightstand for her "more unconventional, hipper clients in the fashion, publishing and entertainment industries who are looking for something distinctive." Perhaps the most titillating part of this event is that it's inexpensive. Sugar and Spice, a New York company that sells things "naughty and nice," provided the atmosphere (and toys) for free in the hopes of selling its wares. |
